The Alabama Department of Corrections Special Services, which consists of the Law Enforcement Services Division, the K-9 Division, and the Narcotics Division, continues its constant vigilance against contraband being introduced into its facilities. There were multiple arrests this past weekend.
FIRST INCIDENT
On March 15, 2025, during a scheduled visitation at Fountain Correctional Facility, ADOC K9 officers observed visitor Leigh Culwell acting suspiciously. Upon investigation, they discovered and confiscated approximately 78 grams of synthetic narcotics, valued at approximately $3,900. Culwell was arrested, transported to the Escambia County Jail, and charged with Unlawful Distribution of a Controlled Substance, Trafficking in Synthetic Narcotics, and Promoting Prison Contraband 2nd.
SECOND INCIDENT
On March 16, 2025, ADOC correctional officers at Fountain Correctional Facility noticed suspicious behavior by visitors Angela McLain and JaDiamond Bolden. ADOC K9 officers responded, investigated, and confiscated approximately 62 grams of synthetic cannabinoids, valued at approximately $3,100, and approximately 136 grams of marijuana, valued at approximately $2,700. McLain and Bolden were arrested, transported to Escambia County Jail, and charged with Trafficking in Synhetic Cannabinoids, Distribution of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Marijuana 1st, and Promoting Prison Contraband 2nd.
THIRD INCIDENT
On March 16, 2025, ADOC correctional officers at Montgomery Women's Facility observed visitor Christopher Farris acting suspiciously during visitation. Officers contacted ADOC K9 officers for assistance. As Farris approached his vehicle, he attempted to discard an item hidden in his pants. K9 officers and correctional staff recovered the discarded contraband, which was later identified as Suboxone strips, a controlled substance. Farris was arrested, transported to the Montgomery County Jail, and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, Promoting Prison Contraband 2nd, and Conspiracy to Commit a Controlled Substance Crime (Distribution).
