Plans and Programs
Commissioner Watson is responsible for the Central Records Division, Research and Planning Division, Supervised Reentry Program, Religious Programs, and Educational and Vocational Education Program. Commissioner Watson is a summa cum laude graduate of Auburn University-Montgomery, where he earned Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Justice and Public Safety-Adult Corrections. After graduating the Corrections Academy in 1987 as an Honor Graduate and receiving the Academic Award, he worked at Kilby Correctional Facility as a Correctional Officer, Correctional Sergeant, Correctional Lieutenant, and Correctional Captain. He served as Warden in various assignments, including Alexander City WR/WC, Childersburg WR/Boot Camp/WC, Birmingham WR/WC, and Elmore CF. He has served in specialized roles from the Commissioner’s office since 2006, including Information Systems, Contract Monitor for 1,300+ leased prison beds in Louisiana, and Director, Supervised Re-Entry Division, where he built the program from the ground up. Commissioner Watson has served as the ADOC Emergency Management Coordinator since 2000, and represents the Commissioner on several state-level Commissions and task forces.
